The First Annual Peace Day Celebration was the brain-child of Rotarian Laura Bauer, Executive Director of the Mattie J.T. Stepanek Foundation. The mission of the foundation is to further Mattie's message of hope and peace by providing access to the message, promoting understanding of the message and motivating people to action in sharing the message.
The Rotary Club of Americus hosted a "Cake and Conversation" booth at the Peace Day Celebration in Downtown Americus, in which cupcakes were served and opportunity provided for the community to ask questions of and have open dialogue with law enforcement and government leaders. Leaders from the Sheriff's Office, Americus Police Department and the Sumter County Board of Commissioners were able to join us for the afternoon.
