Rotary International President Francesco Arezzo led the dedication

On Saturday, June 20, Laura McConatha, incoming Service Chair for Rotary District 6900, was invited to attend a very special event at the King Center in Atlanta, Georgia. Rotary District 6900 dedicated a Peace Pole at the entrance to the Peace & Meditation Garden, just steps away from Dr. King’s tomb and the Eternal Flame. It is one of more than 50 peace poles our district planted this past year, and by far the most significant in location and build. Rotary International President Francesco Arezzo led the dedication, joined by representatives from The King Center and the City of Atlanta. Laura had the opportunity to share about the service and peace building work being done by the Americus Rotary Club with several Rotarians in attendance, and was thrilled to run into her friend, Sumter County native Leonard Pope, at the event. Leonard, also a Rotarian, will be spending a day and night with the young peacebuilders attending the upcoming Grace Camp at Koinonia Farm in early July. The Peace Committee of the Americus Rotary Club has had a presence at and helped sponsor this summer's three Grace Camps.
