In addition to the YPA My Peacebuiders Foundation curriculum implemented at Furlow Charter School, Americus Rotary is happy to report that Ignite College and Career Academy in Americus has signed on to implement the curriculum and do a Peace Project. Ignite is led by Rotarian Don Gilman and Rotarian Susan Ruckman will be the project mentor for that site. Ben Pope will be the faculty liaison in charge of the peace project. Rotarians Joanna Arnold and Laura McConatha are the contacts for Furlow.
Furlow Chart School's peace project is establishing student-to-student mentoring sessions over the course of the 2022-2023 school year. The mentors will be high school seniors with over two years more experience taking courses at a local college through the school’s dual enrollment program. The goal is to provide younger students with motivation and guidance throughout their high school experience to help improve attendance rates, SAT/ACT scores, and overall GPA, resulting in more students participating in the dual enrollment program. In doing so, more students in this rural community can elect to pursue a secondary education. This project is featured on https://www.youthpeaceaction.org/peaceprojects
